Which transmission do I need?

This will be dependent on several factors such as power, weight, how the vehicle is used, rear end gear ratio, etc.

The GM TKX transmission is offered in the following ratios: 

2.87 - 1.89 - 1.28 - 1.00 - .68

2.87 - 1.89 - 1.28 - 1.00 - .81

3.27 - 1.98 - 1.34 - 1.00 - .72

Flywheel

Next, pick out your flywheel. For Big-Block Chevy’s there’s no difference in the bolt-pattern. However, for Small-Block Chevy’s, the flywheel-to-engine bolt pattern changed in 1986 when the SBC went to a single-piece rear main seal. All generations should have six bolts, however, the spacing varies based on if it’s a single- or dual-piece rear main seal. 

  • The tooth count of the flywheel is limited by the size of the bellhousing and needs to match your starter.

Which clutch do I need?

This will be dependent on several factors such as power, weight, how the vehicle is used, drivability concerns, etc. We offer options from mild street single disc to race oriented twin disc. We recommend for most street applications the McLeod offerings for a quality, street-friendly clutch.

Which shifter do I need?

The TKX comes standard with a Tremec shifter. You do have the option to upgrade to our Billet Short-Throw Shifter which offers a 15% reduction in throw and has an integrated O-Ring seal so no gasket or RTV is needed. If you want the most optimal shifter position our Revolver Lock shifter is the only option!

We have a variety of crossmembers listed for different vehicles. Simply choose the crossmember that matches your vehicle.
