Thanks to Tremec and Tick Performance, there is another option! In an effort to make their new TR-6060 transmission less OEM-specific and more useable for swap applications, Tremec created the T56 Magnum, which combined the easy swapability of the older T-56 with the improved design of the new TR-6060. With our Level 4 Magnum TR-6060 Conversion, Tick Performance offers you a direct bolt-in to your 04-06 Pontiac GTO (using an aftermarket driveshaft). Some benefits you'll enjoy over a standard T56 transmission include:
- The ability to choose between 2.66 and 2.97 gearsets
- Triple-cone synchronizers on 1-4 gears, along with double-cone synchronizers on Fifth, Sixth and Reverse
- Wider, two-piece laser beam-welded speed gears which feature built-in positive stops to virtually eliminate the possibility of "overthrown" shifts
- Much stronger one-piece countershaft that resists distortion far better than previous designs and uses larger bearings in all critical support areas for increased stability
- Input Shaft features additional material throughout the length of the shaft, increased face width, a larger input bearing, and generously long splines to accommodate twin-disc clutch setups
- Considerably narrower synchronizers that feature fine-pitch tooth angles to effectively decrease the amount of travel necessary for engagement
- Redesigned shift forks featuring integrated "shift keys" to virtually eliminate the possibility of bending shift forks
- Added cross-sectional material on shift forks for increased rigidity and larger shift pads to promote better wear characteristics
When you place your order, we completely tear down the T56 Magnum and begin our upgrades that we perform in house. Those upgrades include:
- Modifying miscellaneous components to make this a 100% bolt-in to your GTO
- Installing Carbon Blocker Rings on first, third and fourth gears (second gear is already carbon)
- Upgrading all fork pads from plastic to bronze
- End-play set to our custom specifications
- Professional Reassembly done 100% by hand
- 5 Qts of Fluid
Once we finish with your Tick Performance Level 4 Magnum TR-6060 Conversion, you'll be able to reuse your stock bellhousing, shifter and all of your stock accessories with the exception of your stock GTO Driveshaft, which must be upgraded to an aftermarket unit. We also provide you with a new vehicle speed sensor, reverse lockout solenoid and reverse light switch.
Option Guide: Should I have the Bungs & Sprayers Installed?
It is seen time and time again in big horsepower cars that do standing mile or high speed pulls often, and road race or autocross applications; the input shaft bearing can become starved for fluid and fail, causing a chain reaction of damage inside the transmission. With this option, we install and weld bungs and spray tubes inside your transmission that will direct transmission fluid onto your input shaft and third gear teeth that are prone to failure. This kit now includes our Hi-Flow Transmission Fluid Pump Kit. This kit will require some plumbing and electrical wiring. This option adds no extra turnaround time.
Option Guide: Should I Upgrade to an Aftermarket Gear Set?
Tick Performance has partnered with PPG to offer the strongest gear sets on the market with our industry leading transmissions. You have the following options for gear sets:
Faceplated 1st-6th
Faceplated 1st-4th (Allows you to retain or delete your 5th & 6th gear)
Synchronized 1st-6th
Synchronized 1st-4th (Allows you to retain your OEM 5th & 6th gear)
Faceplated gear sets are designed for race only applications and not recommended for street use. The faceplated gear sets include the gears, mainshaft, billet shift forks, slider assemblies, and billet interlock & bolts. The synchronized gear sets include only the gears themselves and will reuse the factory synchronizer assemblies, shift forks, mainshaft, and interlock.
The synchronized gear sets are available with the following ratio:
2.437 – 1.611 – 1.228 – 1.000 - .891 - .80.
2.437 – 1.611 – 1.228 – 1.000 - .797 - .634.
The faceplated gear sets are available in the following ratios:
2.148 - 1.561 - 1.228 - 1.000 - .875 - .770
2.437 - 1.611 - 1.228 - 1.000 - .875 - .770
2.589 - 1.841 - 1.352 - 1.000 - .797 - .630
2.946 - 2.071 - 1.438 - 1.000 - .797 - .630
If you are planning to retain your factory 5th & 6th gear the ratio will change as the PPG input ratio is different than OEM. To find your new ratio please use the following formula.
OEM Ratio / 1.161 = Y
Y x 1.381 = New Ratio

Awesome Product/Experience Overall!
This is going to be a long one so grab some snacks and buckle up! April 29th 2016, Placed order for trans with 2.97 gearset and bungs and sprayers options. Fast forward to late May, have not received transmission. Called Tick was informed their supplier was lacking on shipping out their tr-6060 cores. Could be another couple weeks. June 7th. Transmission shipped. June 10th Transmission Delivered... No thanks to ups the transmission was flopped around in the box, output seal was resting inside one of the grab handles for the box. Luckily it did not split or tear. In no way is this tick performance's fault. Their packing is plenty sufficient as long as a careful adult is handling it and not some ape trying to throw some weights around. Install: On the adapter plate (trans to bellhousing) there is a rather large notch to accommodate a shift fork (retrofit builds) that eliminates one of the bolts originally used for trans to bellhousing, you will also notice there is a bolt hole in the adapter plate that appears to be misaligned by a couple inches, Was assured by Jeremy at tick that it is ok that these two points are missing bolts because essentially you are only missing 1 compared to the original setup. These Transmissions do not come with a Skip Shift Solenoid. So Buy yourself a Skip Shift Eliminator or tune out the skip shift system entirely if you do not want a CEL. Driving! I had installed a McLeod RXT Twin Disk (the longer splines on the input shaft really made this a breeze to install!) which required a 500 city mile break in period. At First the shifting itself was notchy but still had a certain smooth feeling to it. As the trans wore in the shifts become smoother than butter and feel AMAZING! Fast forward to early September After 1100 miles on the trans I had a dead gear incident. When i shifted to second gear it was a full engagement however when i released the clutch there was no resistance, shifted back to neutral and then back into second gear, this time it went in with a grind but everything was back to normal. This happened twice. Later that week a horrible sounding grinding noise appears. Intermittent and can be heard and felt through the shifter. Called Tick phone diagnosis is potential faulty bearing that failed and could be rubbing on the mainshaft. Tick Offered to inspect the trans. Living in Wisconsin I ran into some storage issues and was not able to access my car until late March to get the trans pulled and sent back to Tick. 4/11/17 Trans Shipped To Tick Performance. 4/17/17 Jeremy has Trans Apart and Everything looks amazing. He noticed my shift mechanism was the older style so he updated that and said that should help with the "dead gear" issue I had. 4/18/17 trans is shipped back to me. 4/21/17 noticeably more cardboard in packaging this time (I think the guys at tick had an ape deliver the trans back to them as well lol) trans looks great. and is awaiting install. After a more in depth inspection I figured out the grinding noise was coming from the input shaft rubbing on the inside of the slave cylinder. There was no damage to the input shaft only the slave. Not entirely sure what the cause of that was. All in all I will definitely continue to order from the guys at tick for any of my needs! They Stand behind their product, are knowledgeable and most importantly their customer service is outstanding! If you are hesitating on ordering this transmission or any other product from them here is my advice.... DON'T HESITATE they have your back!

Kickass Transmission!
I needed better power handling, reliability and gearing in a new transmission for my setup. I was not only completely satisfied but completely blown away by this transmission! I did have some installation issues, but Tick graciously worked with the high performance shop I had install the trans and got them all figured out and resolved (kudos to them on that!) and now I couldn't be happier. I did pick the ZR1 (2.97/etc.) gearset and picked up so much more quickness and better overall performance along with WAY better gas mileage during normal driving than the stock gearset than I had hoped for. I highly recommend this transmission for setups requiring serious power handling, performance and reliability. This IS the way to go!
